The entire process has been fascinating so far, writing in someone else's universe. There's an extraordinary amount of canon and lore to play with in the Metroid universe. There's also a lot of untapped potential
However, it's not without its problems.
How does one characterize a character who hasn't uttered a word in all her games?
The persistent theme between all the Metroid games is the feeling of loneliness. It's a unique aspect that has amplified the unique and palpable atmosphere of each game. It also indirectly characterized Samus as a lonely soul, and this loneliness will be the focal point for her character.
Another curious problem arose when I introduced her trademark spacefaring vessel. After some research, I discovered that in all the games it had appeared in, the ship had no actual name. It proved to be quite a conundrum to come up with a name that would fit the mythos and be appropriate to the story. This proved to be easier than I initially thought, as the Federation and the Space Pirates have a tendency to give their machinery Greek or Roman names. So I chose Charon, the ferryman that would transport the dead over the river Styx.
It seemed appropriate
Finally, as any fans of Metroid have likely noticed, I've made a few liberties
As always, anyone who's interested in lending their opinion (whether positive or negative) to this project is encouraged to.
